The Prince Albert II Foundation Presents the 2026 Planetary Health Awards

Protecting our planet means safeguarding everything that is part of it. It’s a race against time, and as scientists have been saying for years, the time we have left is running out.

In the year marking the 20th anniversary of the Prince Albert II Foundation, the prestigious Planetary Health Awards recognize the achievements of individuals and organizations whose work and commitment help promote awareness, develop solutions, and strengthen efforts to protect the environment.

The 2026 edition, held on October 16 at the Salle des Etoiles of the Sporting Monte Carlo, honored: in the Science category,Dr. David Obura, a Kenyan scientist specializing in coral reefs, whose in-depth studies demonstrate how dangerously close we are to irreversible decline, even though the solutions are largely known. His current and future work is dedicated to understanding how the economy and the financial system must be reconnected to nature’s limits and society’s needs—and not the other way around.CorPower Ocean, a Swedish company that develops wave energy technologies, is a leading player in the field of innovation and solutions. This is a clean and competitive energy source that must be developed with respect for the ocean and the protection of marine life. In the Awareness category,Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim, a member of the Mbororo pastoralist community in Chad, advocates for the rights of indigenous peoples and for the recognition of their knowledge in response to climate change.

In commemorating his foundation’s twenty years of activity and commitment, the Sovereign expressed his emotion and pride in the path taken, emphasizing that Antoine de Saint-Exupéry wrote that fraternity“is forged through the shared dedication to something greater than oneself.” For Prince Albert II, this represents a two-decade commitment to a cause that transcends and unites those who are part of it, and that nurtures a collective hope that brings together men and women from diverse social backgrounds—a brotherhood built on shared hopes and enduring friendships.

Among the highlights of this exceptional evening was an equally exceptional guest:Sylvia Earle, oceanographer, resident explorer of the National Geographic Society, passionate advocate for the Blue Planet, and longtime friend of Prince Albert II and the FPA2 Foundation. She emphasized thattoday, more than ever—and perhaps for the last time we’ll have this opportunity—the human race must protect the ocean, because there is still a chance to reverse the trend and move in the right direction, so as not to cross the planetary boundaries beyond which any return to the past would become impossible.

The ceremony conveyed important messages and was attended by over 400 people, including experts, prominent figures, and entrepreneurs who support the Monegasque sovereign’s foundation. Among them was Offroad Club Monaco, represented by Massimiliano Mordenti and Mrs. Erminia Fezia Mordenti, CEO and Project Manager, respectively.
