There is no precedent in the history of Monegasque tennis, and it is only natural that people are still talking about the brilliant result achieved on September 19. It’s the first time this has happened, and it’s a source of great satisfaction to find ourselves among the world’s best nations. It was a memorable day for the Principality of Monaco, which, thanks to its tennis stars, defeated Finland 3–1 in an away match in Davis Cup World Group 1.
A triumph for Monegasque tennis, even though it didn’t start off well, with Lucas Catarina’s loss to world No. 108 Otto Virtanen by a score of 6-0, 6-3. Then came Valentin Vacherot, ranked No. 21 in the ATP rankings, the architect of a golden year thanks to his achievements and the prestige he has brought to his small and extraordinary country. Together with his teammates, the duo of Romain Arneodo and Hugo Nys, they first gave Monaco the lead and then secured the final victory.
Advancing to the next round allows the Principality of Monaco to join the ranks of the world’s tennis elite, the “Qualifiers” group. The draw, scheduled for late November, will reveal the opponent for the next match.
After defeating Kazakhstan and Finland, the Monegasque national tennis team will compete in the first round of the Davis Cup—a first since 1929, the year the Principality of Monaco made its debut in the prestigious competition. Preparation and motivation are key to keeping their dreams alive and fueling their legitimate ambitions. See you in February 2027.
